Half Whitt is mad again!

Well, drop me in the outhouse and call me a … uh, never mind. I’m right dadgum upset today.

We’ve got a guy here in Stump County who goes to the stock market and buys deaders. The Stump County Stock Market isn’t like your stock market. Our stock market sells livestock, not those little certificates you call stock.

Just like your paper stock, sometimes livestock gets sick and sometimes they die.

If you are raising cows, pigs, sheep or any other kind of livestock each and every head of stock is important. They are important to us; not only do they have names, they are like money in the bank. Just like you folks feel when your paper stock gets sick, we get upset when our livestock gets sick.

We do everything we can to make them well, but when it looks like they are going to die anyway, we take them to the stock market. They are called deaders but as long as a cow can stand up it can be sold for pet food.

Anyway, this guy who calls himself Grim buys deaders. He takes them home and doctors them. Some die and he buries them.  The ones that don’t die, once they are healthy he sells them.

Now some city folks who don’t know much are accusing him of killing cows. It don’t matter to them that all of them were on death row and he saved some. All they care about are the ones that died.

Then there is Little Big. He has been buying some old houses that are falling down. He uses parts from one house to fix another. He says he is saving some of Stump County’s heritage.  Well, the same folks that are down on Grim accuse LB of destroying heritage.

The same thing happened to Ed. He was buying wrecked wagons, using the parts to make one good wagon, and selling extra parts. Now they are calling him the wagon killer.

Here’s what makes me mad. These folks just sit on the sideline and complain about folks that make things happen.

How ‘bout the guy who makes a living cutting trees? He buys land, plants trees and cuts trees. The only difference between cutting trees and cutting grass is one takes longer to grow. The folks who complain about him could also buy land and let the trees grow but they don’t know how to do anything but sit on the sidelines and complain. Besides, they don’t want to spend THEIR money to save trees.

But that’s not why I’m upset. We’re used to city folks and do-gooders trying to save the world without spending their own money by telling other folks what THEY SHOULD do.

I’m upset because one of the big-shot Republicons has been buying “deader” businesses, saving some and burying the rest. The same folks are fussing about him.

Nothing upsets me more than having to stand up for a Republicon big-shot unless it is standing up for a Democrap bigshot.

Fortunately for me, neither is right often enough to really cause me problems.
