Grave Digger Loose in Mecklenburg

A disturbing mystery has been plaguing Mecklenburg County. On two separate occasions, Mecklenburg County Authorities have responded to reports of graves being disturbed at two cemeteries. The first Incident occurred on Monday, March 24, at Canaan Cemetery where a grave was dug up and the casket had been tampered with.

According to a press release from the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office, “On Tuesday, March 25, 2014, Deputy Andy Moseley while patrolling the Lacrosse area checking gravesites noticed another disturbed site. While at the RZUA Cemetery located on Rocky Branch Road, Deputy Moseley walked around the cemetery searching the cemetery for any suspicious activity after the Canaan Church Road incident, from the day before. The deputy found a similar ground disturbance as found the day before. Deputy Moseley contacted the Mecklenburg County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigative Division requesting them to respond. Upon the arrival of the CID Unit, excavated the grave in an effort to find if any evidence of a crime or evidence for collection existed. Members of the congregation of both Churches was contacted to verify that no upgrades had been done. The family to the victim was notified of the investigation. After completing the scene investigation, the grave was covered back with dirt. This incident along with the Canaan Church Road Cemetery are still under investigation.”
