CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – Charlotte County residents and any basketball fans from around the James River District will remember Thomas Rogers for his talent on the court.

Longwood v VirginiaRogers lettered three times in basketball for head coach Shep Critzer at Randolph-Henry High School where he averaged 17 points, 12 rebounds and six assists per game as a senior. During that senior campaign Rogers was named the James River District Player of the Year.

The multi-sport star earned accolades on the baseball diamond and on the cross-country team as well, but ultimately decided to pursue basketball at the University of Virginia where he earned a full scholarship and played in 17 games under Head Coach Tony Bennett for the 2013-14 season. The camp will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday.

Rogers said that he hopes to help local kids realize the commitment that it takes to play basketball at the collegiate level and also to encourage them to pursue their dreams of playing sports beyond high school.

He stated, “Basketball helped me get into a top 30 school and earn a degree from UVa.”

He continued, “People from a small town or area can make it in sports with the right attitude and work ethic.”

The camp is open to girls and boys, ages 9-18, and offers young basketball players a chance to train and learn from ACC and Pro Basketball players. The camp costs $30 for one day or $50 for both days. Registration will take place on June 4th from 8 a.m. – 9 a.m. at Central Middle School gym in Charlotte Court House.
