Twice a year American Legion Post #260 of Keysville, Virginia holds a fund-raising event in the Keysville Fire House that usually fills up the place with hungry men, women and children.  The fish and chicken aroma permeates the air throughout the town and whets the appetites of many.

community-newsThese Legionnaires fry up the best tasting fish and chicken one has ever eaten.  Your plate will also be filled with scrumptious slaw, hot baked beans and mouth-watering hushpuppies.

Across the end of the room will be tables filled with an array of sheet cakes for your choice of dessert.  Grab your drink, find an empty chair and chow down as you visit with friends and family.  The desserts and drinks are prepared by the women’s auxiliary of the post and are usually mighty tasty.

Local musicians provide music as you savor your meal.  A little dancing can be enjoyed afterwards so one can work off the just-eaten calories.

The band pauses occasionally for the usual wild bidding on special-made cakes and other desserts for the auction.  Everyone joins in on the fun.  Be careful how high you hold your hand at these times or who you might wave at!

Mark this Saturday, October 4th, on your calendar at 6 p.m. for this season’s Fish and Chicken Fry.  Carry-outs are also available.  Just let someone at the door know that you have come for a carry-out and they will whisk you on up to a special line for that.

The Post only asks for donations for the meal.  Just remember that this is their money-making event and please donate accordingly.

These guys do a lot for the county so let’s help them out.

Not only did they serve our country but are now serving our county’s citizens with their Honor Guard at funerals, by building needed handicap ramps, visiting our schools, visiting home-bound and hospital patients, or taking part in local parades, just to name a few things.

American Legion Post #260 meets every third Thursday at Sheldon’s Restaurant in Keysville at 6 p.m. and welcomes new members at any time.

Remember to come and show your support while enjoying some good cooking.  See you there!
