Farmville Sells Former Library Building for $225k

FARMVILLE -During their October council meeting, members of the Farmville Town Council voted to transfer property to the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation, Inc. for $225,000.

In March of this year, the Board of the Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantations elected to proceed with purchasing the former Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library building at the intersection of Randolph and West Third Street.

For the past several years, Patrick Henry Family Services has rented the former library building from the town to house their child and family counseling center. During the council meeting, Town Manager Gerald Spates pointed out that over $25,000 had been paid in rent by Patrick Henry Boys and Girls Plantation.

Those funds have been used to help with equipment purchases at the new Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library.

Holiday Tree Lighting Set for November 20

In other business before the council, members voted to move the Holiday Tree Lighting from Sunday, November 22 to Friday, November 20 at 6 p.m. The move was suggested by the Downtown Farmville Partnership because downtown businesses are closed on Sundays.

Council approves $143,000 for New Sanitation Truck

Also during their regular meeting, council members unanimously approved the purchase of a new sanitation truck for the town in the amount of $143,621.

The town had included $145,000 in this year’s budget for the purchase of the truck. According to Town Manager Gerald Spates, it will take 120 to 180 days before the new truck will be ready. The new sanitation truck will replace the town’s current oldest truck.
