The Prince Edward Eagles hosted the Central Chargers last Friday night in a game that easily has to be one of the best so far this year in the James River District.

P--PE CHS Var 3 P--PE CHS Var 1As the first quarter began it certainly did not look like the game would come down to the wire as Prince Edward used their size inside with Devon Braxton and Montel Phillips controlling the boards. The Eagles would jump out to a 16-5 first quarter lead in the game.

The second quarter saw Central get the Eagles offense under control as good defense from Raymond Alexander and Jeremiah Davis helped slow down the Prince Edward attack. Despite the adjustments and better play from Central, the Eagles still led 26-14 at halftime.

The third quarter would be a complete reverse as the Chargers made key halftime adjustments to get some of their shooters open outside. LJ Watson would hit a pair of three pointers, while Daryl Jones and Brandon Scott picked up several buckets on drives to the basket. The Chargers would outscore Prince Edward 18-5 in the third quarter and actually take a 32-31 lead as the teams began the fourth quarter.

The two squads would battle back and forth with Central jumping up by 6 points after a Jeremiah Davis bucket. The crowd would help sway momentum back to Prince Edward as a pair of turnovers led to back to back three pointers from Zarius Jones. The Eagles would take a three point lead with seconds remaining, but a missed shot attempt at the buzzer by Central kept that lead intact and gave Prince Edward a 48-45 victory.

Leading scorers for the Eagles were Zarius Jones (13), Montel Phillips (10), Kevon Braxton (9) and Delquan Bigelow (8).

Leading scorers for the Chargers were Daryl Jones (13), LJ Watson (13), Raymond Alexander (8) and Jeremiah Davis (7).
