EAST ROCKINGHAM – The Prince Edward Eagles football team had a good regular season this year and qualified to play in the 2A East playoffs last Friday night, but they had a tall task as they had to go to the #4 seeded East Rockingham Eagles to play.

The Eagles kept things close early on, but the East Rockingham offense eventually took control of the game and came away with a 51-13 win over Prince Edward.

East Rockingham Eagles got on the board on their first offensive possession of the game and went ahead 6-0, but Prince Edward quarterback Joel Thomas continued his strong senior season passing as he found Rah’Quan Payne on a  43-yard touchdown completion to tie the game midway through the first quarter. Prince Edward hit the extra point and held a 7-6 lead with just over seven minutes off the clock in the first quarter.

The East Rockingham passing attack answered right back with a 60-yard touchdown pass from their standout quarterback Jaylen McNair. The air attack kept on coming from there as McNair hit on a 35 yard pass that put East Rockingham up 21-7 midway through the second quarter.

The East Rockingham defense would set up a short field on the next two series and score on a pair of short runs that put them ahead 35-7.

Prince Edward coughed up the ball on their next series and East Rockingham got on the board again before halftime to lead 41-7.

Despite the lopsided score, Prince Edward players continued to battle in the game and the Eagles got another score on the board when Brandon Scott had an electrifying 72-yard touchdown. East Rockingham added another late touchdown to claim the 51-13 victory.

Zion Lewis led the Eagles in passing after filling in for injured starter Joel Thomas. H would complete 8 of 16 passes for 42 yards. Thomas had a strong game before the injury as he was 4 of 5 for 55 yards and a touchdown.

The Eagles leading rusher was Scott who had 95 yards on 15 carries and the top receiver was Bryan Moses who had 5 catches for 20 yards. The PE defense was led by  Markeem Trent with 10 total

The Prince Edward varsity team finished the year 5-6 after going on a second half win streak that propelled them to a .500 record and a spot in the playoffs. Congratulations to Coach Ford, the coaches and team on making the playoffs this season.
