Dunn Gets One Year Found Guilty On All Counts – 19 Years Suspended

DUNN, billyIn November 2017 Billy Dunn entered an Alford Plea on each of three charges of aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years old. An Alford plea means formally pleading guilty while still asserting innocence.

Dunn was first charged on April 6, 2017 with aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years old in an offense that allegedly occurred that day.

On April 16, 2017 Dunn was charged with aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years old with an offense date of July 1, 2001.

On June 16, 2017 Dunn was charged with aggravated sexual battery of a victim less than 13 years old with an offense date of November 11, 1979.

Dunn was required to have a psychological evaluation and a competency report earlier this year.

With the Alford Plea the victims are not be required to testify, and in most cases have the opportunity to agree to the sentence.

Dunn returned to Charlotte County Circuit Court February 21, 2018 for his presentence report and sentencing.

He was found guilty on all three counts.

In each case he was sentenced to 20 years in the state penitentiary with 19 suspended and the sentences to run concurrently.  Dunn will have four years supervised probation following his release with the first two years requiring home electronic monitoring.

He will be required to register as a sex offender and to comply with the state requirements for a registered sex offender.

He will be required to undergo sex offender treatment.

He is forbidden to have any contact with the victims or their families and can have no unsupervised contact with any child under 18 years of age.

He will also be required to comply with the instructions of his probation officer.

Dunn was taken to the Charlotte County Jail following sentencing.
