County Store Robbed, Thief Apprehended

WYLLIESBURG – On Friday, September 20, the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Mrs. Wilson, owner of Wilson’s Grocery in the Wylliesburg area. Mrs. Wilson stated her store had been robbed. Deputies arrived quickly and talked with witnesses. It was discovered the suspect fled the scene by waving down a passing truck. The suspect was identified as Anthony Lee Wood, a 44-year-old male from Chase City. Wood allegedly had taken an unknown amount of cash from the register while trying to pay for some items. There were no weapons involved at the time of the incident.

Wood was arrested in Mecklenburg County on September 21, 2019 on other charges and served with Charlotte County charges at that time. Wood is currently being held in Meherrin River jail with no bond, pending advisement.
