CHARLOTTE COUNTY – A preliminary hearing was held last week in Charlotte County’s Juvenile and Domestic Relations court to determine whether there was enough evidence to require a trial for Joyce Coleman. There was sufficient evidence found, and the case has been certified to the grand jury.

Coleman is accused in the stabbing to death of Gideon “Pete” Walton, Jr.

On Saturday, June 6 at approximately 7:55 p.m., the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call on Forest Trails Road in the Keysville area concerning a domestic incident that had occurred between a male and female, resulting in the male victim being cut. When deputies arrived on the scene, 59-year-old Gideon “Pete” Walton, Jr., a passenger in a vehicle, was found to be unresponsive.

According to reports Coleman, 57, and the victim were living together. Coleman is charged with first-degree murder.
