APVA ScholarshipCHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – The Charlotte County APVA (Association for the Preservation of Virginia Antiquities) was formed 90 years ago to preserve the rich history and heritage of Charlotte County.  A scholarship was created in 2004 by the Board of Directors to continue and maintain its pledge of preserving the county’s past for future generations by financing a scholarship for a Charlotte County high school senior or a county resident who is currently enrolled in college, and has at least a 3.0 grade point average.

For 2018, the Charlotte County APVA Scholarship was awarded to two very impressive candidates: Mr. Stone Tucker, son of Mr. and Mrs. Rocky Tucker of Drakes Branch; and Ms. Lydia Davis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Davis of Drakes Branch.   After graduating from Fuqua School, Stone enrolled at Hampden-Sydney and this upcoming term will mark his junior year.  He is majoring in government with a minor in history.  He intends on pursuing his education after graduating Hampden-Sydney with the hopes of becoming a professor or lawyer.  While at Hampden-Sydney, Stone has maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.87.

Lydia, an alumna of Randolph-Henry High School, is currently a junior at Christopher Newport University where is she double majoring in history and American Studies with minors in Leadership and Museum Studies.  This summer Lydia studied abroad in Greece and completed an internship with the Colonial Williamsburg Teacher Institute.  Presently, she is employed as a junior research fellow for the Center for American Studies at Christopher Newport University, as well as a tour guide for the Office of Admission.
