CHARLOTTE COUNTY – Over the second weekend of February, Charlotte County Amateur Radio Club held a free training course to prepare students to take the entry level license course in Ham Radio.  We are so pleased to announce that seven people successfully completed the course and passed the exam to become licensed operators.  The new Hams are Lynn Duffey, Scotty Jackson, Danny Cooper, Tommy Gray, Karen Rae, Joe Reid and Pat Reid.

New Hams have a lot of excitement as they learn what they can do with their operating privileges.  For example, Danny Cooper got on the air immediately after getting his call sign of KN4JTO and made numerous contacts.  His biggest surprise was contacting the pilots of an UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter.

Amateur operators frequently use satellite communications, analog and digital, and old fashioned tube type radios.  Contacts are made worldwide and right around the corner.  We welcome visitors and offer periodic classes to prepare folks for licensing.  Come on out to the next meeting at 3:00 in the afternoon on Sunday, March 4, 2018 at the Keysville Volunteer Fire Department.  For more information contact Dan Gilliam at 434-808-0678.
