dixonCHARLOTTE COUNTY – Traditional and social media outlets were filled this past weekend with information about a missing 13-year-old female from Nottoway County.

The missing teen was reported missing to the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office on July 4 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Her mother called from her residence along the 3000 block of Dutchtown Road in Burkeville to report her as a runaway.

The teen returned to her father’s residence in Charlotte County, where she was located by authorities later that night around 8:30 p.m.

The Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office said that the 13-year-old communicated on social media with a 35-year-old male subject from Charlotte County who picked her up around midnight on the night she went missing.

The 13-year-old left voluntarily according to reports and the investigation into the incident by the Nottoway County Sheriff’s Office, with the assistance of the Missing and Exploited Children Task Force, led to the arrest of a Charlotte County man identified as 35-year-old Kenneth Dale Dixon.

The Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office also helped with the search and investigation. They received a call from the Nottoway Sheriff’s Office about the missing teen and investigators were informed that the juvenile might have been in the company of Kenneth Dixon.

Charlotte County Investigators found out that Dixon might be headed towards the Drakes Branch area of Charlotte County. Using this information, they were able to locate Dixon and transport him to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office for questioning.

Dixon was questioned by members of the Missing and Exploited Children Task Force and this helped lead to the juvenile being located in the Drakes Branch area. The teen was released to her mother after being located.

The investigation also led to Dixon being arrested and charged with Carnal Knowledge of a minor.  He is currently being held with no bond.

Nottoway County Sheriff Larry J. Parrish stated, “We strongly urge parents to monitor their children’s social media apps.”
