Charlotte Chapter #147 OES Banquet

Order of Eastern StarCharlotte Chapter #147 Order of the Eastern Star held their 25th Annual Banquet on April 7, 2018 at 5:00 p.m. in Keysville at Southside Virginia Community College.

Beautiful decorations afforded the guests and members a comfortable and lovely evening.  Thelma D. Jones, Past Worthy Matron served as the Mistress of Ceremonies.  Music was provided by the C.E.J. Gospel singers. Charlie Davis, Worthy Patron, gave the invocation.  Edith Austin welcomed the group.  Ulanda Walker recognized the visiting Chapters.  Charlie Davis recognized the visiting Lodges.  Anna Gayles asked the Grand Chapter officers to introduce themselves and Wilbert Jones asked the Grand Lodge officers to do likewise.  Ricky Dews, Past Worthy Patron, blessed the food before the group enjoyed the delicious food.

Mary J. Wells, PWM, was the narrator for the queen’s contest. Participants in the queen’s court were LaTonya Allen, Mable Walton, Monica Childs, Jacquelyne Holcomb, and Christine Smith.  Sarah Edmendson, the current queen, crowned Monica Childs, her daughter, as the queen of Charlotte Chapter #147 OES.  Jacquelyne Holcomb was first runner up.  Tammy Dews, Worthy Matron, presented Ulanda Walker, PG U.S, Flag bearer, a plaque for her beautiful decorations that she displayed at all of the banquets.  Elizabeth Harper, PWM, and Donna Davis, Conductress, entertained the group with door prizes.

Remarks were given by Curtis Holland, Grand Worthy Patron, Ivery B. Knight, Grand Worthy Matron, and the Honorable Paige D. Cherry, Most Worshipful Grand Master, Most Worshipful Prince Hall Grand Lodge of VA Free and Accepted Masons, Inc.  Herman Eggleston, Jr. Past Grand Master, presented a birthday cake to the honorable Paige D. Cherry since he was celebrating his birthday.  The banquet ended with benediction by Rev. Haney Thomas, pastor of the New Bethel Baptist church in Meherrin.
