BLACKSTONE – A house fire claimed the life of a man with Lunenburg ties on May 7. Kenbridge Fire Department was dispatched to a house fire call around 5:50 a.m. to the residence of Edward Russell Ghee, 80, located at 915 Jonesboro Church Road, Blackstone.
When responders got to the home, the structure was already fully engulfed in flames. Ghee and his wife were in the home at the time of the fire, but she was able to escape and despite trying to help get her husband out of the home, she was not able to do so.
Fire and smoke were coming from the bedroom when Ghee’s wife awoke and exited the house while calling 911.
Alberta Volunteer Fire Department, Blackstone Fire Department, Lawrenceville Fire Department and Kenbridge Volunteer Fire Department responded.
