Auto Enthusiast’s Paradise: Antiques Models Steal the Show at Local Fundraiser

The Tri-County Community Action Group held its first fund-raising Car Show and Fish Fry on Saturday in South Boston. Friends and neighbors from the town brought their cars, trucks and motorcycles and for the afternoon turned the parking lot of the Agency into an antique auto lover’s dream.

Even though attendance may have been light due to the heat and humidity, those that did attend had fun checking out each other’s rides, eating the good food provided, and just spending the afternoon together.

Edward Holt won Best in Show with his bright orange 1987 Chevy S10 pick-up.  Other standouts were a pampered, purple 1948 DeSoto owned by Jack Fallen and a bright red 1938 Chevy owned by Sammy Rogers. All of the entrants were a sight to see and several brought back fond memories of the long gone muscle car era.

Begun in 1971, the Tri-County Community Action Agency provides a number of services to members of the community that are in need or may otherwise go without. Examples of just a few of these programs:

“They provide a pre-school program for low income and /or children with disabling conditions, ages three to four. Additionally a number of services are offered for parents and children alike inside of the Head Start program.”

“They provide emergency and financial services, including emergency food and shelter, homeless intervention, and Energy Share.”

“Their Domestic Violence program provides a confidential 24-hour hotline, emergency shelter, crisis intervention and supportive services.”

Saturday’s event was just one in a long list of the concerted efforts of the Agency and its concerned  and active volunteer citizens to make a difference in the lives of those people that need it.
