Halifax Regional Health System and The Woodview are pleased to announce that Brandy S. Anderson, a licensed practical nurse at The Woodview, is a recipient of this year’s Virginia Health Care Association Regirer Nurse Scholarship. Anderson plans to further her education with a goal to become a registered nurse. She was among 35 recipients who each received $1,500 toward the cost of their nursing education.

“We are so pleased that Brandy has been recognized with this scholarship honor,” said Connie Zamora, director of long-term care services for Halifax Regional Health System and administrator at The Woodview. “Brandy is an excellent caregiver who consistently exhibits strong core values and commits herself to meeting the needs of residents at The Woodview. She has so much to be proud of and we know she will find great success as she continues with her nursing studies.”

This year’s Regirer Nursing Scholarships, which are awarded by the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation, were awarded to 23 recipients employed in Virginia long term care facilities. To receive the award, each recipient completed an extensive application, were personally interviewed by a member of the foundation’s nurse scholarship committee and agreed to work in long term care after graduation.

The scholarships are named for Walter and Maria Teresa who, as members of the Virginia Health Care Association (VHCA), led efforts to improve access to long-term care education for career professionals. The Regirer Nursing Scholarship Program is designed to promote and support quality of care and to enhance the educational level of nurses currently working in VHCA member facilities. The Regirers were leaders in the VHCA, which is an affiliated organization of the Commonwealth Long Term Care Foundation.
