Truckers’ Parade Against Cancer Relay for Life Team One of Only Four Receiving Hero of Research Award

CHARLOTTE COUNTY – The Hero of Research Award offers Relay For Life teams who raise at least $165,000 during the Relay season an opportunity to name an existing post-doctoral fellowship research grant in honor of a loved one or their team. Once identified, the named grant is active for three years.

Four teams from across the country, earned this honor for their incredible fundraising efforts in 2021. Charlotte County’s very own Truckers’ Parade Against Cancer (TPAC) was one (of only four) to receive this honor.

The team elected to name a grant currently being funded at Duke University. Dr. Elliot SoRelle’s grant, “Resolving the Origins of Restricted Fate in Epstein-Barr-Virus-Infected B Lymphocyte Proliferation,” is in effect for the next three years and has been named in the team’s honor: Truckers’ Parade Against Cancer, Charlotte County, Va.

For the TPAC team, raising money and funding cancer research continues to be a top priority; it all boils down to cancer research. Their fundraising is allowing us to help cancer patients and their families. This team wants to ensure that when a patient sees a doctor they are receiving the right treatment to give them a better quality of life. The Truckers’ Parade was started in memory of one special lady. If today’s treatments had been available in 1997, she might have had the chance to see her grandchildren grow up – that’s the value of research.

The success of Truckers’ Parade Against Cancer would not be possible without the team of dedicated volunteers that spend all year planning the meaningful event and soliciting donations from individuals and companies alike. Nor would it be possible without the hundreds of donors, trucking companies, sponsors and supporters that have continued to donate in honor and in memory of their loved ones affected by (and lost to) cancer.

With all of the above being said, The Truckers Parade Against Cancer is gearing up for the 2022 event to be held on October 8, 2022.  We will start selling raffle tickets to win a Kubota RTV, or $5,000.00 cash, sponsored by Spaulding Equipment Company.  We also have available tickets for a lovely quilt made by the ladies of South Central Parish Quilters.  Every dollar helps in the fight against cancer.  We understand things are hard with rising costs of our everyday expenses, but cancer patients still need cures to be available for them and drugs to help with the side effects of treatment.

Make the decision today to not buy that candy bar, or a second cup of coffee, but to put your money toward a raffle ticket to help us in the fight against cancer instead.  Lots of small donations add up to large amounts and we are proof of that.  Please reach out to a TPAC member or call one of the following numbers: 434-391-4026 / 434-568-0849 / 434-542-5511 to purchase your tickets today.

The Truckers Parade Against Cancer has become a generational event.  We have seen several generations of families join us in an effort to remember loved ones and help in the fight.  Help us continue this for generations to come, or until we have a generation with a cure for cancer.
