LUNENBURG – The Lunenburg County Youth Baseball League is making headlines all across the state after an amazing feat by their All Star teams this season. Richmond area news outlets even picked up the story of how all three divisions from the county won the Virginia State Tournament and will be participating in the Dixie Youth World Series at the end of this month.

Not only have all of the teams won the district and state championships, but they all have done so with a perfect record.

The coach pitch team had a close first game in the state but came away with an 11-10 win over Amelia. They followed that with an 11-2 win over Amherst, beat Timberlake 14-7, Brunswick 18-3 and Timberlake again in the Championship game by a 16-4 margin.

The AAA (Minors) won five straight games in the state tournament to claim the championship. They beat South Hill 4-2 to open the event and followed that up with an 11-1 win over Brookneal. The team beat Salem 14-0, South Hill again 6-3 and then took the championship game win over Brookneal 7-1.

The Majors division Lunenburg squad beat Amelia 5-1, Dinwiddie Americans 13-3 and then got a bye to the championship game. In that game, they faced Amelia once again and took a 6-1 win.

LCYBL officials held a special event on Monday night to celebrate “our three, yes three State Champion teams!” With support from great area sponsors such as Marinos from Victoria who donated pizza, AJ Produce who donated burgers and Timmy’s Grocery who donated hot dogs, the kids were recognized and had many Lunenburg fans there supporting them.

The teams have also been doing fundraisers in order to help with the cost of traveling to Mississippi for the World Series events and the response from the county has been tremendous with businesses and individuals helping these kids.
