Judy Davis Hall Obituary

Written by on February 1, 2023 at 2:01 pm

Judy Davis Hall, 81, passed away on January 19, 2023, in Crewe, Va., following a lengthy illness.  Judy was born on September 6, 1941, the middle child of five. In childhood, she lived in Danville, Va., Aberdeen, N.C., Drakes Branch, Va., and Raeford, N.C. In 1960 she graduated from Randolph-Henry High School in Charlotte County, Va., where she played basketball and was voted “Best All-Around” her senior year. Judy enjoyed the Garden Club and volunteering in her community: serving as a Girl Scout leader, Cub Scout den mother, PTA member, and Vacation Bible School teacher.  She loved celebrating special occasions with family and friends and hosting elaborate birthday parties for her children and an annual New Year’s Eve party. She lived in Raleigh, N.C. for 20 years before returning to Lunenburg County to be closer to her grandchildren. Judy worked as an administrative specialist for South Hill Hospital, Boydton Social Services, Meredith College, and BioSignia. She enjoyed dancing to beach music as a member of the Raleigh Shag Club (Fat Harold’s Beach Club entrance has a red brick with her name!), traveling, and attending any event in which her children or grandchildren were participating. And she loved Elvis. Judy was a devoted mother and grandmother and will always be remembered by her children as a gifted cake decorator, green thumb, lover of animals, and for making Christmas magical.

Judy is preceded in death by her mother, Edna Quinn Davis, her father, Horace Temple Davis, her sister, Bettie Jean Davis, and her brother, Jimmy Davis.  Left to cherish her precious memory are her three children, Dr. Kim Q. Hall (Dr. Jill Ehnenn), Sheila H. Strigel (Will Hudgins), and Dr. Clarence “Clay” Edward Hall II (Susannah Hall); five grandchildren, Eli Hall, Elizabeth Hall, Helen Strigel, Mark Strigel, and Anna Strigel; two siblings, Brenda Branch and Linda James (Steve James); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  Judy’s contagious laugh, generosity, kindness, courage, strength, and wit will live in our hearts for the rest of our days.
The family thanks home health nurses, Shanna Atkins and Samantha Lafoon, The Front Porch (Pam Jones, Director, and Nikki Jackson), and the entire team at Crewe Medical for taking such good care of Judy.
A celebration of Judy’s life with family and close friends will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to Lake Country SPCA, Clarksville, Va., https://www.lakecountryspca.org.  Online condolences/memories may be shared by visiting https://www.clarkeandstaples.com.
