Youth Killed by Car

At 8:48 p.m. Tuesday (June 17), Virginia State Police Trooper A.C.S. Goss responded to the scene of a two-vhicle crash in Prince Edward County. The crash occurred on Route 307/Holly Farms Road at the intersection of Randolph Drive.
An 11-year-old was riding his Huffy bicycle south on Randolph Drive. As the boy crossed over Route 307, it pulled into the path of a westbound Ford Focus. The Focus was unable to brake in time or able to avoid striking the bicycle. The boy was thrown from the bike.

The bicyclist, Jaylen Hix, 11, of Rice, Va., was transported to Southside Community Hospital, where he was declared deceased.

The driver of the Focus, a 21-year-old male from Amelia Courthouse, was not injured in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed at this time.

Route 307 was re-opened to through traffic by 10:50 p.m.
