PRINCE EDWARD – In less than a week, Prince Edward County voters will decide if there should be a new sheriff leading the county’s department.

Three candidate names will appear on the November 3 ballot.

Current Sheriff Wesley Reed (D) is seeking re-election. Dale Vaughan (I) and Brandon Cummings (I) are also seeking the position.

The only other opposed seat in this general election is that of supervisor from the Hampden District. The seat is currently held by Charles McKay, who is not seeking re-election. Richard Altice (I) and Odessa Pride (D) will appear on the ballot.

Prince Edward Voter Registrar, Lynette Wright, said earlier this week that she believes the voter turnout for this election will be moderate. “Four years ago there was a 39 percent turnout for the November 2011 elections,” she said.

There are currently 12,868 registered voters in Prince Edward County.

The following individuals are seeking election but are unopposed:

Machell Eppes (D), Clerk of Court; Beverly Booth (D) Commissioner of the Revenue; Donna Nunnally (D), Treasurer; Howard Simpson (D), Board of Supervisors, District One; Robert Jones (D), Board of Supervisors, District Two and Pattie Cooper-Jones (D), District Eight.
