carson8 carson4RED OAK – After 19 weeks and four days, the McCall family heard the words they had been waiting for, “a discharge date.” On Thursday, December 22, Carson was given the green light to return to his home in Red Oak. With his mother, Teri, father, Jarrod and brothers, Clayton and Colton, by his side, Carson was welcomed back home by his family, friends and community supporters, affectionately known as “Team Carson,” who have prayed for him and followed his story these past several months.

For those not familiar with three-year-old Carson McCall’s story, he was diagnosed with Globoid Cell Leukodystrophy, commonly known as Krabbe Disease on June 23, 2016.

Following his diagnosis, Carson was admitted to Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C., where he underwent extensive procedures and testing which led to a stem cell transplant on August 11.

The stem cell transplant required Carson to stay within a 10-minute drive from the hospital, which meant that he and his mother, Teri, would call the Ronald McDonald House “home” beginning in September.

Through this long journey, the family has seen a tremendous outpouring of prayers, love and support, from family, friends, community members and strangers alike.

“We are so grateful for the continued prayers for our family,” said Teri McCall. “We are so blessed that we were able to spend Christmas together and at home.”
