Judge William P. Hay, who served the courts of Virginia honorably for so many years received an unexpected visitor this past Monday.  Oliver Stiff, upon hearing how much the retired judge and long-time friend had wanted to attend the 40th anniversary party he hosted last week, (see Southside Messenger- April 9-15 “Celebrating a Life Well-Lived”) did the only thing a gracious host could do, Oliver brought the party to the Judge! Oliver organized the small get together in order to present the Judge with an Award of Appreciation for the many years of friendship and professional courtesy that existed not only between the two but that extended to so many that had been fortunate to have met and known the judge. In short, it was an award of appreciation for a life well-lived. Steve Wall of the Farmville Herald, Robert Llewellyn, owner of C&L Machine and Bobby Amos of Fisher Auto Parts were also present to receive their awards, not having been able to attend the large party last week. A small dining hall in the Holly Manor section of the Woodland made an excellent setting for the get together, where the Judge was happy to reminisce to the rest of the group about bird hunting and the ill effects that coyote have on the quail population.  Farmville Mayor David Whitus, who is also the Director of Administration, Marketing and Development for the Woodland, and Farmville Town Councilman and President, CEO of the Woodland, Greg Cole were also in attendance.
