Dr. Dunn Retires from WaylandSince opening its doors in 1990, Dr. James Wayland Dunn has served as Medical Director and attending Physician for residents who have resided at Wayland.  While starting out as a long-term care facility (nursing home) for persons who could no longer safely live at home, Wayland has developed over the years to offer the highest quality of nursing and rehabilitation services.

Dr. Dunn would visit the facility several times per week after working at his office to see residents and coordinate their medical care.  He was on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.  While Dr. Dunn holds no ownership or financial gain in the facility, when the decision to change the name from Britthaven to something else came up in 2010, it was only fitting to name it in honor of Dr. Dunn.  Therefore, Wayland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center came to be in January 2011.

Dr. Dunn has served many people of this community as he has had his own physician practice, served as physician for the county jail, medical examiner and even served as Mayor of Charlotte Court House.

Dr. Dunn has seen the facility grow in many ways, including the new addition, which opened last year.  The new skilled care wing is a state-of-the-art facility, boasting all private rooms, beautiful dining and activity areas, centrally located nurses’ station and amazing therapy gym.  Dr. Dunn was honored with a retirement reception at Wayland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center on July 31.   Staff, residents and families had the opportunity to express their appreciation to him and wish him well in his future endeavors.  He was honored with a plaque and beautiful arrangement of flowers.

Wayland Nursing & Rehabilitation Center has contracted with The Woodland Family Practice for physician and medical director services.  While The Woodland operates a facility in Farmville both hold high regard for long-term care services of our seniors and feel this contract will be a successful one.  Wayland in no way is changing its ownership from the parent company based in North Carolina.
