Warren Carleton Kreykenbohm, Sr.

obit - KyerkenbohmWarren Carleton Kreykenbohm, Sr. was born January 25, 1921 on Rocky Top in Hamden, Connecticut in the house where he grew up as young boy. He died on September 3, 2015 while a patient at Lynchburg General Hospital.

He graduated from Hamden High School and the University of New Mexico. He was a bombardier in the United States Navy before joining and serving his country with The Central Intelligence Agency.

He was a child of the depression and lived his life with great appreciation of our country and all it had to offer. He retired from the CIA after serving in Tokyo, Thailand, Korea and Liberia. His home was often filled with dignitaries where they would gather for dinner. His service to his country was of great importance to him.

His children had an opportunity to share many adventures and grow up in a home that stressed good manners and respect for others. While in the states one of their first adventures was the raising and selling of Christmas trees with family and friends while on Rocky Top. After retiring the family moved to their farm in Stafford, Virginia. He again returned to his great love of farming and they moved to their new farm in Charlotte County in Phenix, Va.

He was an avid horseman raising, breeding and racing Thoroughbred horses. He was ahead of his time with his farming practices and began growing organic vegetables and mushrooms over 20 years ago. His greatest joys were the excitement of a sunrise, the solitude of the setting sun and the bending of bamboo under a heavy snow.

Warren was an active member of the Republican party in Stafford County and served as their delegate to The Republican National Convention. He served as a president of The Farm Bureau in Stafford County.

He was proceeded in death by his first wife Mildred Marino Kreykenbohm . his son Carl Kreykenbohm and step daughter Jeanette Geiger.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years Cindy Longerbeam Kreykenbohm, a daughter Tyra Minna Freed and her husband John, a son Warren C. Kreykenbohm III, a grandson Stephen A. Sexton, Jr,, stepdaughters Elizabeth Geiger and Rebecca Segal and husband Rick.

The family will receive friends at the Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, on Saturday, September 12, 2015, from 3 to 5 p.m.  The Browning-Duffer Funeral Home in Keysville, VA, is in charge of arrangements.
