Victoria Officer Recognized for DUI Arrests

FARMVILLE – DUI accidents are responsible nearly thirty-four percent of traffic fatalities. These startling statistic should really come as no surprise, but rather highlight the fact that this continues to be a major issue on highways each year.

P--Victoria officer recognizedVirginia Alcohol Safety Action Program (VASAP) recently held their annual DUI awards ceremony in Farmville and Victoria Police Officer Daniel Medlin was honored at the event for helping with this growing issue.

Officer Medlin recorded five DUI arrests in his first full year with the Victoria Police Department and was given this award after also recently being named Officer of the Year for Victoria PD.

VASAP recognizes law enforcement throughout the region that have helped keep the highways safe by stopping and arresting drivers who are driving under the influence.

The event featured representatives from M.A.D.D. and Nationwide Insurance who applauded the  winners of this award for their diligent police work.

Victoria Police Chief Keith Phillips stated, “Officer Medlin has been a tremendous asset to the department and awards such as this are a reflection of his efforts.”

He continued, “Through a good combination of police work and working well together, we want to continue to make the community safe.”

Officer Medlin said that drunk drivers are an extremely dangerous safety concern. He stated, “I do not want anyone driving under the influence to hit another person or family and cause a tragic event.”
