victoria-fire-and-rescue-1VICTORIA – Windy and dry conditions on Monday helped contribute to a field fire just outside of Victoria. The responders from Victoria Fire and Rescue were called to 725 Shelburne Lane off of Oral Oaks Road.

A resident at the location had reportedly been burning materials in a barrel behind the home when sparks caused a field nearby to ignite and begin to burn. The fire spread quickly as a result of the weather conditions. There were two homes in the vicinity.

Victoria Fire and Rescue responders were called to the location at 12:30 and were at the scene within ten minutes, where they began to spray down the field and cut off fire from spreading.

The firefighters got the location under control, but there were several acres that burned.

Luckily no structures were harmed and there were no injuries during the fire.

With the current dry conditions, residents are reminded to be careful burning any materials. Also with colder weather in the area it is important to check chimneys and home heating systems as well.
