Newton Remains in Role as Chief
By Brian Nowlin, Staff Writer
VICTORIA – With the recent news that Rodney Newton would be assuming the role of Town Manager in Victoria, many people wondered how that might affect his role as Fire Chief at Victoria Fire and Rescue.
Newton has been integral in helping lead and grow the department from running the most fire and EMS calls over the past three years to helping with numerous other grant and Communication Cache ventures.
Chief Newton recently noted that his future at Chief of Victoria Fire and Rescue would be determined by the members and what their wishes for his role to be were. Those wishes are for him to remain as Chief following the yearly elections last Thursday night.
Joining Chief Newton in helping lead the organization will be veteran firefighter Frankie Tanner who has also been an integral part of the organization through the years.
Victoria Fire & Rescue has been helping Lunenburg residents since 1941, beginning as Victoria Fire Company, has served the area with Fire and EMS services. Currently the Department provides Fire, EMS, and a class III radio communications cache for Victoria, Lunenburg and region 3.
