Two convicted in Charlotte Jail beating

On October 11 and 12, 2012, an inmate in the Charlotte County jail was assaulted by two other inmates.  The 23-year-old victim was treated at Centra Southside Hospital and released.

William Everett Himes of Bristol, Va. and Matthew Vincent  Muniz of Bristol, Va. were charged in the incident. Himes was serving a sentence for manufacturing  methamphetamine and conspiracy to manufacture methamphetamine. On July 10, 2013 Himes was convicted of unlawful wounding, assault and battery, and sexual battery. He will be sentenced on October 9, 2013.

Muniz has been charged with 2 counts of malicious wounding, one count of aggravated sexual battery by force or injury, and strangulation in the incident.

Muniz was serving a one-year sentence for distribution of hydrocodone at the time of the assault. His case has been continued to October 9.
