LUNENBURG – Kenbridge and Victoria will both be holding Halloween related Trunk- or-Treat events this weekend with CDC and VDH guidelines.

The event in Kenbridge will be hosted by the Town of Kenbridge and is taking place at the Kenbridge Town Hall parking lot located at 511 E. 5th Avenue. Kenbridge officials noted that there will be a directional pattern set up so that children and parents can social distance and follow CDC and VDH guidelines.  Town Manager Tony Matthews stated, “We ask that all candy be pre-bagged for the children.  We ask that all people at the vehicles have on gloves and masks, and that the children be handed their bags of candy instead of reaching into a bowl, bucket or basket.  We also ask that the following guidelines be set up for trick or treating in town.

-Trick-or-treaters should wear protective gloves and protective masks under Halloween masks

– Wear protective masks and gloves when answering the door to trick-or-treaters

– If you do not wish to receive trick-or-treaters, leave your porch light OFF

– Trick-or-treaters should only approach those homes with porch lights ON

– If you are uncomfortable with your children trick-or-treating simply do not allow them to do so

– These guidelines may change if the Governor’s office issues further mandates.

The time for the event will be from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m., and anyone interested in decorating their trunks and participating is asked to contact town officials to participate. Setup can begin in the parking lot at 4:30. Candy donations will also be accepted at Town Hall.”

Anyone with questions can call 434-676-2452.

The Town of Victoria is also sponsoring and hosting their annual Trunk-or-Treat event as well, that was started several years ago. It will take place on October 31 in the Victoria Railroad Park along Firehouse Road. The event will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. and goodie bags and treats will be available for all kids up to age 13.

Victoria Town Manager Rodney Newton stated, “We encourage participation in the trunk-or-treat event as that can be a little more controlled.  For the trunk-or-treat event we will be using social distancing recommendations and will be spreading out beyond the park parking lot to allow more space.  We are recommending that participants bag candy to allow for more controlled distribution.”

Town officials also stated, “COVID-19 has presented challenges for all of us since March of this year.  With Halloween just around the corner, this is no exception. Trunk-or-Treat will be held in the area of Victoria Railroad Park on Saturday, October 3 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m.  CDC recommendations will be followed including social distancing, hand sanitization, and use of masks.  The Town of Victoria will provide signage for social distancing as well as hand sanitizing stations around the event.

“For the distribution of candy, it is recommended that the candy be prepackaged to allow for easy distribution and to limit handling by multiple hands.  It is also recommended to have a table or some means to distribute the candy that incorporates social distancing.  “Even though this is an outdoor event it is also recommended that masks or face coverings be used by participants.

“If there are changes in CDC or state guidelines prior to the event, the event will be modified to meet those recommendations.”
