MECKLENBURG – Around 5 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11, 2017, Virginia State Police was called to the scene of a fatal crash in Mecklenburg County, between Crafton’s Gate and Chase City.
A 2010 Buick Enclave was traveling southbound on Route 47 approximately three tenths of a mile south of Twin Drive when it crossed the center line and struck a northbound 1997 Ford F-250 pickup truck head on in the northbound lane. The driver of the Buick, Julia H. McInturf, 64, of Chase City, and the driver of the Ford, Steve W. Parks, 64, of Chase City, were pronounced dead at the scene.
Two passengers in the Buick were transported to Southside Community Hospital with life-threatening injuries. One of the passengers, Donald L. McInturf, 68, of Chase City, succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday evening, Dec. 12, 2017 at Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center.
There were no passengers in the pickup truck. All four individuals involved in the crash were wearing seat belts.
The crash remains under investigation.
