FARMVILLE – Shortly before 1:30 p.m. last Friday, September 15, the Walmart store in Farmville was evacuated after an alleged threatening call to the store.

According to police a man allegedly called the Farmville store claiming to be inside in possession of a gun and having suicidal thoughts.

Walmart was evacuated while police searched the store for the caller. No one was found and upon investigation, it was determined that the call was a hoax.

Police say a Walmart employee allegedly used a website to obtain a loan and when she learned it was a potential scam she cut off all communications after she was asked to wire funds.

According to the Farmville Police Department, it is believed that the call to the store was in retaliation for the employee not wiring money.

There were no injuries and no active shooter or weapons found. Police have identified the suspect involved in the hoax.
