Taking an icy plunge for Special Olympics

Written by on February 11, 2016 at 11:21 am

Polar Plunge1Swimsuit season started a lot earlier for a group of local Charlotte County residents who brrrr-avely  participated in the 2016 Polar Plunge held in Virginia Beach this past weekend. Members and friends of the Area 15-Charlotte County Special Olympics exceeded their personal fund-raising goal and helped raise over $1 million for the Special Olympics. The two-day festival included activities for many ages and abilities including several fun runs, athlete plunges, costume contests and the main plunge that took place at 2 p.m. The guts, glory and beachwear event has four Virginia locations that have February plunges, but the Virginia Beach event is by far the largest and the crowd favorite. Who can resist that first plunge in the Atlantic for the New Year? Certainly not the freezing and fearless Area 15 participants who also won the award for best costume.  Congratulations to Team Captain, Joanne Catron, and the Area 15-Charlotte County participants and many thanks for taking the plunge for Special Olympics!
