RB and GranddaughterCHARLOTTE COUNTY – “I have enjoyed the challenges and rewards of being the Charlotte County Administrator. Now I am going to enjoy my time with my five children and 15 grandchildren.”

In a surprise announcement at the end of the February Charlotte County Board of Supervisors meeting, long-term County Administrator R. B. Clark announced his plan to retire on June 30, 2018. “I’m speechless and that doesn’t happen often,” said Board Chairman Gary Walker.

Clark began his tenure as Administrator in 1981 and has held the position for 37 years, making him the second longest serving county administrator in Virginia.

Clark added, “I’ve spent a total of 44 years in public service if you count the seven years with the school system.”

“I’ll be doing all I can to help out with the transition but I will not participate in the selection process for the new administrator. “

Norma Tuck, Finance Director, who has been employed with the county as long as Clark, stated, “We’re going to miss him. He’s been a great boss. It’s been a pleasure working for him.”

“It’s the end of an era,” noted Jenni Booth, Administrative Assistant who has worked with Clark for almost ten years. “He’s the best boss I’ve ever had. He’s a man of his word and he never raises his voice. I was lucky to come upon this job to work with R.B. and the staff in this office.”
