Statesmen Softball picks up JRD win last week

The Lady Cougars of Nottoway High School came to Randolph-Henry with an undefeated record and left still undefeated.   Nottoway held R-H to a season low in hits and runs allowing just six hits and two runs.  The Lady Statesmen fell behind 8-0 after four innings of play but outscored the Lady Cougars 2-0 the last three innings as Lindsey Kunath sat down 12 of the last 13 batters.  R-H was led at the plate by Maggie Adams with two hits while Molly Rose, Kimmi Horsfall, Kendall Bowman and Lindsey Kunath had one hit each.  The Lady Statesmen had four errors in the game with all occurring in the first three inning of play.

The Lady Statesmen dropped the first game of a double header to the Central Chargers, but bounced back in game two scoring five runs on seven hits with no errors.  R-H jumped up 2-0 after one inning of play as Molly Rose scored on a single by Maggie Adams, who later scored on a single by Kimmi Horsfall.  Rose led off the second inning with a triple and scored on a single by Dominique Dews.  Maggie Adams started the fourth inning with a homerun followed by back to back hits by Elizabeth Devin and Kimmi Horsfall.  Lindsey Kunath went the distance again allowing just one run on six hits while striking out two.  In three different innings, R-H threw out base runners on relays from the outfield to third and home.  Right fielder Taylor Johnson threw out a baserunner at third base ending the game.  In the two games combined, R-H was led in the field by Liz Devin and Anna Grace Cary having 18 putouts and assists together.
