AMELIA – The Randolph-Henry Statesmen football team continues to search for their first win of the season and after traveling to Amelia on Monday, they were unable to turn a strong effort into a win. The Raiders used several big plays to gain a 28-7 win.

The Statesmen offense looked strong at the outset of the game with Chris Powell and Tyree Blow leading the team down the field. John Chaney and Collin Vaughan along with their offensive line mates were opening holes and R-H moved the ball all the way to the Amelia 10 yard line. However, the drive stalled and the Raiders took over.

The Statesmen defense was strong early on as Quamel Brown and Josh Goldman helped slow down the Raiders passing attack.

The game would remain scoreless until four minutes left in the half when Amelia finally got on the scoreboard. The Raiders would get a touchdown pass with 18 seconds left in the half and a two point conversion to take a 14-0 lead to the locker room.

The game remained the same until late in the third quarter when the Raiders got another long touchdown run and went ahead 20-0.

Randolph-Henry kept battling and responded with a touchdown drive when Powell scored from 2 yards out on a QB keeper. John Walker hit the extra point and the score was 20-7 midway through the fourth quarter.

R-H put together another long drive late in the game but an interception in the end zone ended that threat. The Raiders added one more score and took the 28-7 victory.

R-H travels to Cumberland on Friday night with a good chance to get their first win of the season.
