Statesmen Get in the Win Column in Final Week of Play

Statesmen get in the win columnCHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – The Randolph-Henry Statesmen have gone through a tough year on the gridiron in 2017, but they ended the season on a high note as they got their first win of the year in the final week of the season against Cumberland.

The Statesmen and Dukes were both looking for their first win of the season and the game was close throughout. Neither team could get the offense going in the first half with each squad scoring one touchdown and going to halftime tied at 6-6.

The close contest continued in the third quarter with the two teams matching each other with another score and two point conversion to head to the fourth quarter tied at 14-14.

R-H pulled away in the final quarter behind the strong running of Treymon Roberts and Derius Marable. With a 14-0 advantage in the fourth quarter, the Statesmen came away with the 28-14 victory to move to 1-9 on the season.

Roberts had 194 yards and 2 touchdowns on the night while Marable added 80 yards and a touchdown. Peter Jones connected on one touchdown pass to Hurley Noblin in the game to account for all of the scoring.
