statesmen-boys-1FARMVILLE – The Randolph-Henry Statesmen varsity basketball team traveled to Fuqua on Monday night for an early season scrimmage game against the Falcons. The Statesmen looked to be ready for the season opener after a 63-47 win that included big games from juniors Nasheim Pettus and Tremaine Pugh.

Randolph-Henry used a strong offensive attack and good outside shooting in the first half to jump ahead 40-23 at the midpoint of the contest. Pettus had a three pointer as the second quarter ended to put an exclamation point on the early portion of the scrimmage.

Fuqua played well in the third quarter as they used pressure defense to slow down Randolph-Henry and force several turnovers. The Falcons were able to cut the Statesmen lead to 45-35 with just over two minutes left to play in that quarter.

A nice drive to the bucket by Pugh and another Pettus three pointer extended the lead in the fourth quarter and the Statesmen cruised to the 63-47 win.

R-H got contributions from numerous players on the boards and controlled the paint with their size and depth.

Varsity players this year are  Kevon Boyd, Sherrek  Boyd, Billy Brantley Jr., Quamel  Brown, Jordan Jones, David Moore, Nasheim Pettus, Tremaine Pugh, Jashon Puryear, Jesse Redd, Collin Vaughan, Jalin Watson, Christian West.
