Statesmen baseball beats Cumberland, falls to Chatham

The Varsity Baseball team split a pair of games last week as they beat Cumberland 11-0 before falling to Chatham 6-5.  In the game against Cumberland the Statesmen scored 11 runs in the first four innings. Offensively the Statesmen were lead at the plate by Josh Jones, Joseph Reed, and Kendrik Goldman.  They each recorded 2 hits on the day.  Jones and Reed each hit their first homerun of the season.  Bradford Webb and Colton Osborne each saw time on the mound as the combined to pitch a shut-out.  Webb went the first 3 innings retiring all 9 batters he faced and picked up the win.  Osborne went the final 2 innings.

S--Statesmen BaseballGame two of the week saw the Statesmen lose a close game to Chatham by a score of 6-5.  The Statesmen fell behind early and could not get the big hit they needed.  Offensively, the Statesmen were lead at the plate by Joseph Reed, Carter Strickland, and Cameron Vassar.  They each recorded at least 2 hits.  Vassar hit a solo homerun in the 5th inning.

Carter Strickland took the mound for the Statesmen and pitched 5 innings.  Strickland took the loss after giving up all 6 runs.  Cameron Vassar pitched the final 2 innings striking out 5 and allowing  no runs.

The Statesmen have 2 games this week as they will travel to Prince Edward on Tuesday and will host Buckingham on Thursday.
