Statesmen Advance to Region A Semifinals

CHARLOTTE COURT HOUSE – The Randolph-Henry Statesmen continue to roll on the hardwood following their James River District Tournament Championship recently.

The Statesmen continued their impressive play with a big first round win in the Region A playoffs.  Randolph-Henry faced a familiar foe in the Amelia Raiders and easily won in a 75-38 final. The Statesmen jumped ahead 30-5 at the end of the first quarter and then held a 45-15 lead at halftime.

Scoring Leaders: Tremaine Pugh 25 (12 in 1st Q), Nasheim Pettus 17,  Jordan Jones 13, Masud Benu 12, Treymon Roberts 6 and Jashone Puryear 2.

This set up a second round game with another JRD opponent in the Bluestone Barons. The Statesmen won 104-72 over Bluestone to advance to the Region A semifinals at Goochland.  It was a fast paced game with R-H jumping out to an early lead, 28-15 after one quarter.  The Statesmen stretched that to 56-31 at the half.  Things got “hairy” in the 3rd as Bluestone cut the lead to 17 (73-56) going into the 4th.  R-H built the lead back and coasted to the victory.

Scoring:  Jordan Jones 35 (24 in the 1st half), Nasheim Pettus 27, Tremaine Pugh 15, Treymon Roberts 9, Billy Brantley 7, Jashon Puryear 5, Veiw Moore 4, and Chris West 2.
