Skeletal Remains Identified

CHASE CITY – Human skeletal remains that were discovered on November 21, 2017 in a field adjacent to Dollar General in Chase City have been identified by the Medical Examiner’s Office in Richmond as Nicholas Clayton, according to a report from Chief Jay Jordan of the Chase City Police Department.

The Chase City Police Department was notified to respond to North Main St. in Chase City to a field adjacent to Dollar General on Tuesday, November 21, 2017. Upon arrival, Officer A. DeSantis was met by a contracting crew hired out by Dominion Power to cut right-of-ways, whose employees had discovered skeletal remains in a grassy field.

Chief Jordan has confirmed that the identity of the remains was confirmed late last week, but his office was waiting on Charlotte County officials to notify family members before releasing any information.

There is no information on the cause of death and this is still being treated as a death investigation.

Clayton had been missing since July of 2017.
