Abigail and Lauren Moseley of Emporia have been awarded honors in Cooperative Living magazine’s 2013 Youth Art Contest.  Seven-year-old Abigail won third place in the first grade category, and her sister, 11-year-old Lauren, received honorable mention in the fifth grade category.  They are the daughters of Amy and Christopher Moseley, who are members of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative.

The art contest was announced in the January and February issues of Cooperative Living magazine, and entries were due May 1. Students from kindergarten through 5th grade were invited to submit artwork illustrating the theme, “Why My Cooperative Linemen Are So Cool” for the 11th annual version of this contest. Nearly 90 student artists entered the competition. Prizes were awarded for first place in each grade category, with winners receiving a $25 cash prize.

“We started the Youth Art Contest more than a decade ago to encourage youthful creativity and give kids a chance to show their art to the magazine’s 1.2 million readers,” says Bill Sherrod, Cooperative Living’s editor.  The magazine has the largest circulation of any magazine in the state of Virginia.  Sherrod continues, “All of our staff who judged the entries were impressed with both the quality and creativity of the students’ work.”
