Have you ever had one of those weeks?  A week where the events kept flowing and these events made you stop to think about life.  Within a 72-hour period, there was a birth announcement by family members who did not think they could ever have a baby, a marriage ceremony that brought two families together, and a life celebration for a 96-year-old aunt who passed away.  The question kept coming to mind:  how do you live a life you define as satisfying, stay happily married for 70 years and at the end of your life have everyone’s last words about you be you lived life well?

Here is the wisdom from Aunt Pauline on how to meet these goals.  Her first secret she revealed in the song she picked to be sung.  She picked the song by Marty Robbins “With His Hand on My Shoulder” because she said she felt his hands on her shoulder all her life.  She wanted to share with all her family and friends one of her secrets on how she lived her life well.  Here are the words she wanted us all to hear.

With His hand on my shoulder I sail this sea of sin
With His hand on my shoulder I cannot help but win
I’ll follow as he pilots me through waters dark and cold
With His hand on my shoulder I know I’ll reach my goal

My every hope is anchored to the faith I have in Him
I know I’ll reach the shoreline though at times the lights are dim
He’ll take me past the rocky cliffs from life’s storm I’ll be released
With His hand on my shoulder I’ll have everlasting peace

Surrounded by an angry sea that’s made of hate and sin
But I won’t sink as long as I won’t let the waters in
And with the help of God I know I’ll never lose my way
With His hand on my shoulder I cannot go astray

I have a home up in the sky and He made it just for me
But to prove that I’ll desert this home I have to sail this sea
The waves of sin sometimes are high and the spray might touch my clothes
With His hand on my shoulder, it will never touch my soul

She revealed her second secret in the Bible verse she wanted read at her life celebration.  She described the verse as the cornerstone of her life.  When she had the chance during construction of her new church building, to write a verse on the bare, new stage floor, she picked this verse.  She described this verse as the most important verse for everyone to know.  Trying to think of just one verse or saying to give to someone to be the cornerstone of his/her life was extremely thought provoking.  What verse would you say is the most important for your loved ones to etch on their hearts?

From a great woman who lived her life with peace and grace, here is the most important verse she etched on her heart ….

Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.  Psalms 46:10
