FARMVILLE – After a big win over Amelia in their Homecoming game, the Prince Edward Eagles varsity football team rode that momentum into a game last Friday against Cumberland and came away with another blowout win by a 41-13 score.

The Eagles offense got off to a slow start early on and Cumberland took advantage with a 32 yard touchdown pass from Brandon Leabough to James Booker that put the Dukes ahead 6-0 late in the second quarter.

That score lit a fire under the Eagles offense as they quickly drove down the field and scored on a Brandon Scott 7 yard touchdown run. The two-point attempt would be stuffed by Cumberland and the game was tied at 6-6. The game would go to halftime with the teams tied and no indication that a Prince Edward onslaught would be coming in the second half.

The Eagles got the ball to start the second half and got into the end zone in a hurry when Joel Thomas found Bryan Moses on a 42 yard touchdown pass. Scott would add a two point conversion and PE jumped ahead 14-6.

PE added another quick score after a Cumberland punt when Scott raced in from 10 yards away to put his team ahead 20-6 midway through the third quarter. After another good defensive stand by Prince Edward, Scott got the Eagles on the board again with a 52 yard touchdown run and two point conversion that made the score 28-6.

Thomas went back to the air for another PE score when he connected on a 17 yard touchdown pass to Aneal Walker. Walker then took in a 12 yard touchdown run that put the Eagles up

Cumberland added a late touchdown, but Prince Edward cruised to the 41-13 victory.

Scott ended the game with 279 yards and three touchdowns, while Thomas was 7-12 passing for 110 yards and 2 touchdowns.

Markeem Trent was the tackles leader for the PE defense with ten, while Rajai Walton had nine total tackles and one fumble recovery.

The Prince Edward Eagles (4-4) travel to Randolph-Henry High School (1-6) this Friday night and look to add third straight win.
