Red Oak Woman Killed in Early Morning Crash

CHARLOTTE COUNTY – Virginia State Police Trooper D.B. Meeks Jr., is investigating a two-vehicle fatal crash in Charlotte County. The crash occurred on Tuesday, Aug. 23, 2016, at 7:39 a.m. on Route 632, less than a mile north of Route 608.

A 1999 Toyota Rav4 was traveling north on Route 632 when it ran off the right side of the road. The Toyota’s driver overcorrected which caused it to come back onto the road, cross the centerline and hit head on a southbound 2001 Chevrolet Silverado. The impact of the crash caused the Toyota to spin around in the roadway and the Silverado to run off the right side of the road into a ditch.

The driver of the Toyota, Kristen L. Weaver, 25, of Red Oak, Va., died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt.

The driver of the Chevrolet, Roger L. Tharpe, 68, of Saxe, Va., was transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of serious injuries. He was not wearing a seat belt.

The crash remains under investigation.
