R-H Varsity Softball Holds on for Win Over Amelia

The Lady Statesmen hosted the Lady Raiders of Amelia and held on for a 5-4 victory.  R-H went up 2-0 in the bottom of the third inning when Molly Rose reached first on a fielder’s choice, and Maggie Adams hit a two run homer.  Amelia would tie the game in the top of the 5th on three hits.  R-H came back with three runs in the bottom of the 6th as Kimmi Horsfall started the inning with a single followed by Maggie Adams hitting her second homerun of the night.  Liz Devin followed with a single and Cymiria Shuford would have a RBI double.  Amelia made it close in the top of the 7th scoring two more runs.  Taylor Johnson and Dominique Dews would also have a hit on the night giving R-H eight total hits for the game.  Lindsey Kunath went the distance on the mound giving up 10 hits while striking out three.

On Monday, May 9, R-H traveled to Appomattox and came home with a 0-8 loss.  The Statesmen could only manage one hit on the night by Taylor Johnson.  Lindsey Kunath went three innings giving up three runs on six hits.  Taylor Johnson and Kimmi Horsfall went the last three innings giving up five runs on five hits.  The Lady Statesmen came out flat at the plate and could never rebound.  In the field, R-H made only one error and was led by Molly Rose with six assists.

On Tuesday, May 10, R-H hosted Liberty Christian Academy and came up a little short losing 9-11.  LCA went up 2-1 after one inning of play on three hits.  They would increase their lead to 7-1 going into the bottom of the 5th before the Lady Statesmen bats would finally wake up.  R-H scored six runs on five hits to tie the game at seven.   LCA scored two more in the 6th and 7th going up 11-7, but R-H did not go away quietly.  R-H would score two runs and had bases loaded with one run before LCA turned a double play to end the game 9-11.  R-H was led at the plate by Maggie Adams and Kendall Bowman with two hits each.  Others with hits were Molly Rose, Kimmi Horsfall, Cymiria Shuford, Dominique Dews, Taylor Johnson,  Alexis Spencer and Anna-Grace Cary.  Lindsey Kunath went six innings while Kimmi Horsfall went one inning on the mound.   With one week and three games left, R-H is in third place in the James River District.
