R-H track team has strong meet against Nottoway, Cumberland

The Randolph-Henry Track Team recently competed in their first track meet of the season at Nottoway on 3/24 against Nottoway and Cumberland. This year the track team coaching staff consists of Joe Freeland as the head boys’ coach, Joshua Haskins as the assistant for the girls’ and boys’ and Karen Osborne as the head girls’ coach.  The three worked tirelessly to get these athletes mentally and physically ready for their first meet.  The team consists of fifteen girls with one being an 8th grader and sixteen boys. Out of the thirty-one athletes, this is the first time running track for seventeen of them.  Coach Freeland work with the long distance runners and throwers while Coach Osborne work with the sprinters, relay teams, jumpers, and middle distance runners. Joshua Haskins work with all athletes where needed.

Girls’ Track

Kiera Dodd…………1st place in shot put and discus

Nadya Pettus………1st place in 100 and 2nd in the 200

Deja White…………1st place in the 3200 and 2nd in the 1600

Takia Wade………..3rd place in the 1600

Lily Toombs………..4th place in the 1600

4×100 relay team that consisted of Nadya Pettus, Melody Scott, Liyah Stevenson, and Anisha Marable placed 1st

Boys’ Track

Quadre Pulliam…….3rd place in the discus

Mitch Dunn………….4th place in the discus

Billy French………….3rd place in the high jump

Chris Powell…………2nd place in the 100 and 3rd in the 200

Harmon Boyd………..3rd place in the 100

Deon Shuford………..4th place in the 100

Ryan Craighead………3rd place in the 1600

Devin Brown…………..4th place in the 1600

Nasheim Pettus……….4th place in the 200

4×100 relay team that consisted of Nasheim Pettus, Deon Shuford, Devon Brogden, and Chris Powell placed 2nd

4×400 relay team that consisted of Harmon Boyd, Devin Brown, Devon Brodgen and Marvin Lambert placed 3rd

The next meet at Nottoway on April 7th, 2016 at 4:30.
