The R-H Cross Country teams traveled to Occoneechee State Park on October 21 to compete in the JRD Cross Country Championships. The Runnin’ Statesmen looked for solid performances from its top runners to gear up for next week’s Courthouse Conference 37 meet in Appomattox.

The Boy’s race was extremely exciting, as R-H looked to dethrone reigning champion Goochland. All the runners had fast times with Chris Nichols(6th), Nasheim Pettus(7th), Michael Nichols(14th), and John Wendelin(15th) leading the way and earning All-JRD recognition. But, in the end, R-H fell a little short and walked away with a respectable 2nd place finish.

The Girl’s team looked to gain some consistency in their times in preparation for next week’s big race. The two-time defending Courthouse Conference champions ran well, but could only muster a 4th place finish. Adrianne Nelson(4th) and Megan Garrett(14th) earned All-JRD honors.

The Runnin’ Statesmen will travel to Appomattox on October 28 for the beginning of their postseason. Runners and teams who qualify will then travel to Bristol for the Region 2A West Championships. Good luck and run fast, Runnin’ Statesmen!
