Prince Edward Board to seek additional grant for industrial park

FARMVILLE – The Prince Edward Board of Supervisors voted to Tuesday night to support a grant application to the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission amounting to $145,405.

This grant would be used for infrastructure improvements associated with the construction of approximately 1,500 feet of road at the Prince Edward Industrial Park, to gain access to 60 acres of potential industrial sites that are currently landlocked.

The Tobacco Commission recently announced a second Southside Economic Development Grant for communities that still have funds in their local allocations.

Currently, Prince Edward County has $145,405 available. These funds, if awarded, could be used towards the design and construction of a new Industrial Access Road at the Prince Edward Industrial Park.

The County has already received a total of $377,475 ($328,395 and $49,080) from the Commission toward the projected cost of the Access Road, which is $1,058,650.

The planned road project is to construct a 1,500’   This will include road clearing, road grading, erosion and sediment control, ditch line protection, storm water management, culvert pipe, headwall/wing-walls, asphalt paving, and 900 feet of 12” waterline.
